Here’s a few recently published apps from students of the Android N Developer Course. We can only cover a few apps when we do these roundsups but a big well done to everyone who has published an app recently! Getting your app on the marketplace is a great accomplishment. If you’ve published an app please do let us know!

Bunk Manager

This app does not by any means endorse or condone avoiding attendance for the classroom which the name may suggest. The app is an attendance management app. It allows you to enter the subjects which hate the most, set your attendance limit and it will tell you how many classes you can get away with bunking or need to attend. Your attendance will automatically backup up everytime you update your attendance.

So an interesting app which has had a few dozen downloads in a very short period of time. Maybe there’s a demand for this type of app?! You can take a look at the Bunk Manager app on the Google Play Store here.

Your Places -Find Places & Attractions

If you like travelling, planning a trip or just looking for a new cafe or some new place then “YourPlaces” app is created for you!

With “YourPlaces - Find Places & Attractions” you can find new interesting places only with few steps and see all available information about it - photos, address, phone, site, and opening hours. You can use a list of recommendations and find places by categories such as banks’s, cafe’s, hotels, restaurants, and many others!

The Your Places app is available on the Play Store.

What’s That Word? Word puzzles solver

This is a fast a word puzzle game where you pick the known or possible letters, and the app will quickly find you the appropriate word options from more than 400 000 words. And you can play this without having an data connection!

This app will help you to quickly find words for such popular games as crosswords, Scandinavian crosswords, Wheel of Fortune, Scrabble, rebus, pictorial puzzles, etc. The dictionary includes not only regular words, but also abbreviations and names.

Where U At?

“Where U At?” is an easy to use app that enables you to track family, friends and work colleagues. It is free and contains NO adds or in-app purchases.

You can create different groups of people or join groups created by other people. You can only see locations of people to whose group you belong to. This allows you to keep your groups separate and private. For example, you can track family and friends, but having them in separate groups means they can’t see each other.

Once a group is created by yourself, others can join by using the same group name and group password, that you provide them. Sounds great for group excursions! Checkout Where U App here.

UltraKey

This is quite an innovative app which allows you to remotely start your motor vehicle with your Android device. The author has created a demo which you can checkout with this link. It’s a keyless remote start app which does require some additional hardware too but I think everyone would agree that it’s quite a good looking at.

The author Ezekiel Samuel Brooks says he is a self taught hardware and software developer. Not bad for his first mainstream app!

DNS tells your computer where to look for a website when you enter the name into your web browser, where the emails are sent and received and where services associated to your domain name are held. DNS is served by whomever provides the nameservers. There are always at least two set of nameservers, one being the primary and the other being the backup. Eco Web Hosting has four sets of nameservers which can be used and these are:

ns1.eco-dns.co.uk
ns2.eco-dns.co.uk
ns3.eco-dns.co.uk
ns4.eco-dns.co.uk

If you have a domain name with another provider such as GoDaddy, 1 and 1 Internet, 123-REG or anyone else and want to use Eco Web Hosting to host your website, you just create a web hosting package for the domain name and simply ask the registrar (the people who you pay to renew the domain) to change the nameservers to Eco Web Hosting’s. And that’s it really! All the other records will be populated by Eco Web Hosting automatically and after a few hours the website will be up online. You can confirm what the nameservers are set to by doing a whois lookup. A whois provides information on the domain name and there are various whois tools available on the internet. One such tool is https://www.whois.com/whois/ which will then retrieve information about the domain such as who the nameservers are set to.

A Records / Not able to change nameservers?

There are times when you don’t want to change the nameservers or cannot change the nameservers of your domain and you will be asked to create an A Record or CNAME to a set of IP addresses. As Eco Web Hosting websites can be hosted on a number of web servers, there isn’t a standard IP address to give to customers. You have you find out the IP address of the server your site is hosted on. To do this access the web hosting control panel via https://www.ecowebhosting.co.uk/cp/listdomains and select the domain name. If you look on the right under Account Information, the IP address of the server the hosted account is on is shown. That will be the DNS A Records that s required.

Propagation

When making any type of DNS changes whether it be nameserver changes or an A Record change, these need to propagate across the internet. This is when every computer around the world knows about the changes to your domain name. It’s a little like a ripple affect so takes a few hours after making a nameserver or DNS change so if you see a message “This domain is reserved for future use” don’t be alarmed. It’s quite normal and after a few hours your website will be displayed as expected. If after 24 hours you don’t see your domain pointing at your web space then it would be advisable to contact the Eco Web Hosting support team so they can check everything is in order.

Using someone else for email

If the nameservers are set to Eco Web Hosting’s then Eco Web Hosting will automatically provide the email service. There may be occasions when you want Eco Web Hosting to provide the web hosting but someone else to provide the email service, Google for example or Microsoft. The MX Records (MX stands for Mail Exchange) determines where the emails are routed and this can be changed in the web hosting control panel by scrolling down to the Domains section and selecting the Manage DNS option.

Selecting this option will then allow you to add your own MX Records. If you need any assistance the Eco Web Hosting team will be more than happy to assist!
