DNS – Using a domain with Eco Web Hosting

DNS tells your computer where to look for a website when you enter the name into your web browser, where the emails are sent and received and where services associated to your domain name are held. DNS is served by whomever provides the nameservers. There are always at least two set of nameservers, one being the primary and the other being the backup. Eco Web Hosting has four sets of nameservers which can be used and these are:

ns1.eco-dns.co.uk
ns2.eco-dns.co.uk
ns3.eco-dns.co.uk
ns4.eco-dns.co.uk

If you have a domain name with another provider such as GoDaddy, 1 and 1 Internet, 123-REG or anyone else and want to use Eco Web Hosting to host your website, you just create a web hosting package for the domain name and simply ask the registrar (the people who you pay to renew the domain) to change the nameservers to Eco Web Hosting’s. And that’s it really! All the other records will be populated by Eco Web Hosting automatically and after a few hours the website will be up online. You can confirm what the nameservers are set to by doing a whois lookup. A whois provides information on the domain name and there are various whois tools available on the internet. One such tool is https://www.whois.com/whois/ which will then retrieve information about the domain such as who the nameservers are set to.

A Records / Not able to change nameservers?

There are times when you don’t want to change the nameservers or cannot change the nameservers of your domain and you will be asked to create an A Record or CNAME to a set of IP addresses. As Eco Web Hosting websites can be hosted on a  number of web servers, there isn’t a standard IP address to give to customers. You have you find out the IP address of the server your site is hosted on. To do this access the web hosting control panel via https://www.ecowebhosting.co.uk/cp/listdomains and select the domain name. If you look on the right under Account Information, the IP address of the server the hosted account is on is shown. That will be the DNS A Records that s required.

Propagation

When making any type of DNS changes whether it be nameserver changes or an A Record change, these need to propagate across the internet. This is when every computer around the world knows about the changes to your domain name. It’s a little like a ripple affect so takes a few hours after making a nameserver or DNS change so if you see a message “This domain is reserved for future use” don’t be alarmed. It’s quite normal and after a few hours your website will be displayed as expected. If after 24 hours you don’t see your domain pointing at your web space then it would be advisable to contact the Eco Web Hosting support team so they can check everything is in order.

Using someone else for email

If the nameservers are set to Eco Web Hosting’s then Eco Web Hosting will automatically provide the email service. There may be occasions when you want Eco Web Hosting to provide the web hosting but someone else to provide the email service, Google for example or Microsoft. The MX Records (MX stands for Mail Exchange) determines where the emails are routed and this can be changed in the web hosting control panel by scrolling down to the Domains section and selecting the Manage DNS option.

Selecting this option will then allow you to add your own MX Records. If you need any assistance the Eco Web Hosting team will be more than happy to assist!

No problem! Go to 6monthchallenge.co, click View Purchased Courses at the bottom of the page and enter the email address you used to pay. You’ll then see all the voucher codes for the courses you have purchased.

All New 6 Month Challenge – Change Your Life In 2017!

Do you want to start a business, develop new income streams or change your career this year?

Over the last 12 months I have been developing a new way to help people do exactly this, and I’m pleased to announce that The 6 Month Challenge is now here!

Take the challenge to completely change your life in 6 months, and make 2017 the year you take a huge step toward the life you want.

When you join the 6 Month Challenge, you will receive weekly guidance to help to set and achieve your big goals, along with special tools and access to an exclusive support group to give you inspiration and help when the going gets tough.

One of the biggest difficulties of learning online is finding the motivation to keep going, and so the 6 month challenge is all about making a commitment to change your life, as well as giving you weekly encouragement, direction and support to help you achieve your goals.

Enough already, how do I sign up!?

I want the 6 month challenge to be change as many lives as possible, and so I have made it available for everyone who buys one or more of my courses using the links below by Saturday 7th January. There is no extra charge for the challenge beyond the cost of the course. You must purchase using one of these links to get access to the 6 month challenge.

The extra good news is each course is just $10 using these links!

The Complete Web Developer Course 2.0 – just $10

The Complete iOS 10 Developer Course – just $10

The Complete Android N Developer Course – just $10

When does the 6 month challenge start?

The links below will expire on Saturday 7th January. Anyone who signs up using the 6MONTHCHALLENGE code and registers their purchase on Eco Web Hosting (as described in the How Do I Get My Free Stuff? video in each course – you’ll need to provide your email address) will be automatically emailed with full details of how to get started on Tuesday 10th January.

If you don’t sign up to Eco Web Hosting before Monday 8th January, don’t worry, you’ll receive the initial email as soon as you verify your purchase.

Is buying a course using that code the only way to join the 6 Month Challenge?

Yep! I may make the challenge available in other ways further down the line, but for now buying a course with the 6MONTHCHALLENGE discount code by Saturday 7th January 2017 is the only way to get access.

Is the challenge really free?

Yep! There are absolutely no charges beyond the cost of the course.

So what exactly do I get with the challenge?

You will get a weekly email every Monday morning from me with precise step-by-step instructions of what to do that week. You will also get access to online tools to help you keep track of your progress as you go through the Challenge. Finally, you get membership of the exclusive 6 Month Challenge Facebook Group where you’ll get advice and encouragement from myself and other students along the way.

The weekly instructions will start with a range of learning challenges, and then increasingly you will need to complete more independent tasks, such as building Twitter followers, creating a portfolio website, applying for freelance jobs and even starting your own online business. It’s not an easy challenge, but I can promise you it will be hugely rewarding, and I’ll be there every step of the way.

I’ve designed the 6 Month Challenge to contain everything that you need to start a new career, become financially independent or build your own business using the skills you’ll learn in my courses.

But I already have all of those courses!

Congratulations! In that case, gift one to a friend or family member 🙂

Once you’ve signed up, tweet me using the hashtag #6monthchallenge and I’ll give you a virtual high 5 to kick things off!

I sincerely hope the 6 Month Challenge helps you to create the life you want in 2017.

Happy coding!

Android App Roundup

We’re seeing some really good apps published by students who have taken The Complete Android Developer Course and it’s a pleasure to share some of them here.

Hasten

hastenHasten is a vocabulary word game and the developer has released it under Apple iOS devices as well as Android. The concept is simple, you are given a number of letters and a time limit to combine them to make a word which you have to do on a roll. And you look to beat highest score.

A great way to exercise your brain daily whether you are on a commute or just have a few minutes spare.

Hasten is available from the Play store here.

Split Bill Calculator

splitbill

Created by Marcos Martini the same developer who created Hasten, Split Bill Calculator isn’t just a calculator! It allows the user to split a sum and share it via sms, email or even social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Very useful if you’re out dining and your friend forgot their wallet and you want want to send a reminder  or needing to share a split bill like a holiday booking.

Have a look at Split Bill Calculator here. Nice promotional video too!

Heathrow Airport Information

heathrow

A very useful app which shows flight arrivals and departures information, details of departure gates, baggage claim and has indoor airport maps. This app hasn’t been out for very long but not surprisingly has had a huge number of downloads.

This app is a must if you are travelling to London Heathrow Airport (LHA) to catch a flight or pick someone up.

Get the Heathrow Airport Information app from the Play Store here.

SideKick

sidekick

SideKick is an app which gives you a summary of how many of your Facebook friends liked and commented on your pictures. For some people this would be very useful – especially for those who do Facebook marketing as this app will consolidate likes and comments in one place.

Get Sidekick from the Play Store here.
