I’ve been getting a lot of questions about updates, new courses etc. recently so I’ve decided to implement a monthly update to let you guys know what’s been happening with the courses. This month has been pretty busy, so it’s a long one!
New Courses
I have broken ground on my Complete Android M Developer Course, and will be offering early access shortly after Google IO, when hopefully we’ll find out what Android M will be called!
I’ve started working with a number of top notch instructors on a range of new courses which should reach you guys in a few months. More details will be posted on my blog.
Course Updates
I’ve been updating all three major courses in the last month. Most updates are a response to student requests here - check the Done tab to see what has been fixed, and post any other issues you find in the other tabs to get them fixed.
- The Complete iOS Developer Course - re-recorded section 7 and half of section 8. Also added quizzes to most sections.
- The Complete Apple Watch Developer Course - various editing tweaks and quiz fixes.
- The Complete Web Developer Course - updated some missing content, small changes to Twitter API section.
Bundle Deals
I am now able to offer bundle deals on multiple courses, so look out for the first of these coming later this month.
What else would you like to know?
If there is anything else in particular you’d like me to keep you updated about, just post it in the comments below.
Happy coding!
Hi ! Can you please consider Phonegap - To build mobile apps for all platforms using HTML5/CSS/JS/JQM?
Thanks! 😀
Can’t believe I didn’t think of that actually - it’s on the list!
+1
I have been looking around for live broadcasting tutorial for ages. Meerkat/Periscope clone tutorial using WebRTC would be definitely amazing to learn from you 🙂 What do you think?
Sounds fun! I’ll add it to the list!
Looking forward for it 🙂
Hi Rob,
Just started taking Andrew’s Sketch 3 course and was viewing your content. I started the following discussion on Udemy, but figured I’d leave a note here so you could see directly:
I just finished taking the iOS Developer course and I’m wondering (and hoping) if the material that’s being added [to the Sketch 3 UI/UX Design course you’re co-teaching] is going to go into more about how to use elements created in Sketch for interactivity.
For instance, the Acorn screen that we design in Section 4 has the graphs that would (fully functioning of course) be pulling data from some database. It would then chart the graphic using those numbers and the filled-in sections that show trajectories would be modified and displayed based on the data.
As of now, it seems we learn how to extensively design assets, but the implementation and interactive nature of the graphics into the apps isn’t touched on in these lessons.
Is this what’s going to be added? It’d be awesome to see how to take thought-out designs and not only display them (as is in Rob’s section now), but show how they could dynamically change and be interacted with.
Thanks!
Jimmy
That’s more of a coding issue rather than a design one - my iOS course should teach you all you need on that.
Right, but as far as interactivity…using some of the custom interface elements to react in different ways. It appears that that is going to be what is covered in the Sketch 3 co-venture, no? Right now, the section you have posted is a basic setup of a view controller…but essentially just recreating the design with your own text and your own graphics in XCode (rather than using more than one exported image from the Sketch 3 project).
I was hoping when the course was presented about “implementing” the graphics, it’d be more of an explanatory experience of how to make interactive UI elements (more than just a static image and recreating buttons) and show how to pull certain data from server-side tables to work with the design we’re learning to create in Sketch.
Yep, that’s really a coding question, so well beyond the scope of the Sketch course. My iOS course pretty much covers all of that though…
Im a little new to some of the stuff in the complete web developer course, is it only me that has a hard time grasping what is taught about javascript in this course? Wasnt sure where to post this, felt like I was supposed to already know most of the coding beforehand. I kin of stopped there because i was overwhelmed. Let me know if you have any tips.
Sorry to hear that! Take it slow, practice all the exercises - there’s no rush! If you need to watch the videos more than once - all the info is there! Good luck!
I’d like a Windows version of The Complete Web Developer Course. My 13 year old son is working through it and he’s finding it confusing trying to implement everything on his PC when it’s demo’ed on a Mac.
Thanks - perhaps version 2 could be on Windows…I’ll give it some thought.
Dear Rob,
I am now at 79% of your Web tutorials. The programing language I know the best is C# and I started comparing PHP with it. At the time I don’t really appreciate PHP because I found the syntax inelegant and often uselessly complicated, but it is just a shallow reaction to something I don’t really know yet.
I am also asking myself how it would be possible to use my knowledge of C# to create the business logic of my future websites. The ASP.NET MVC framework seems to offer just that, with integration of what I have learnt so far in your course. It is a work in progress though.
I was also wondering if it is possible to use Apple Swift to code the business logic of a website. So yes, if I had a suggestion, it would be to extend your tutorials on IOS8 to Mac software and website development. I am looking for quite a long time for an introduction to Mac development, but I haven’t yet found something very enticing. I am not sure if there is a real demand for Mac development though, but it may be something to explore.
Be well,
Pierre
I really want to knwo about wordpress theme creation, there is nothing like that on udemy.
Thanks
Great, that’s 2!
Hi Rob! I’ve learnt a lot from 2 of your courses. Im looking forward to the Android M course! Im also eager to learn Meteor JS. Could it be possible for you to teach on that? 😀
Hi Rob!
A genuine thanks for your wonderful courses. I read the comments before mine and I heavily support the idea of “ phoneGap ” course also adding some extra projects to your existing courses would be a great idea.
I would say before uploading the project videos on your existing courses you can give them to us as a challenge and week after you can upload the videos as a solution. Please let me know what do you think of it.
Thanks
Ahsan,
Good thought - will see if I can find a way to work that in.
How about building a WordPress theme? That would be something that I think a lot of people would want to learn.
Yep, that’s definitely coming!
That would be a great idea .
Hello rob, can you show how to make a slide-out sidebar menu? I want to make one in my App. Sry for my englisch
Fantastic courses Rob. Keep up the great work. The courses are thorough, but start at the basics allowing one to build their skills slowly but surely. I am looking forward to the Android course!
IAP Tutorial in Swift 1.2 with iOS 8.3 (these releases or higher)
Always am thinking about ways to make a little money (aren’t we all) and In-App Purchases seems to be something that all of us can benefit from. I’m registered in all of the courses so it makes no difference to me which course could contain an IAP tutorial. I hope others in these tutorials are also interested in voting for this subject matter.
Yep, that will definitely be added - cheers!
Rob, do you plan on being in the developer world for a while. I am thinking about putting more effort and time into learning mobile development once I obtain my ccnp. The thing I am most curious about is how to I find out about new technologies when it comes to developing, will you be that guy for me. A leader in the community that I can follow and continue to learn from and improve my skills. I had to google phonegap..
It surely would be nice if your courses were keyword indexed. Are you hoping Udemy will implement that as some sort of infrastructure improvement?
my apple watch simulator won’t ever run, the window will pop up when I build but I nothing appears in it. Any suggestions? thanks!
Hey Rob,
Any news on the update to CH. 9 of your iOS course, the Tinder app? I know the lectures are behind some of the recent changes to a few of the frameworks being used. I stopped progressing through the remainder of the entire course itself until an update to that chapter happens, and I would like to get back into and move ahead.
Anyway, love the course, and plan on buying many more to come. Especially the Android one!
Best,
Brian
All updated for Xcode 7 now!
